Achievements

PCORE is proud of the accomplishments and strides we have made over the years. The following is a sample listing:

  • Developed and co-sponsored three Brown Bag programs for staff to follow up on the diversity climate survey outcomes (2005-2006):
    De-mystifying Hiring Procedures
    Survey Action Plans of the College & Campus Life
    The 5 W’s about EOP & Employee Relations

  • Granted $4,850 in Professional Development Fund stipends to new junior faculty and staff members (2005-2006)
  • Conducted focus group meetings with faculty of color on tenure pipeline experience and recruitment/retention (2005-2006)
  • Input in drafting the new discriminatory harassment policy and improving communication on grievance process (2005-2006)
  • Representation on the Search Committee for the new Sr. Vice Provost for Diversity & Community Development (2005-2006)
  • Sponsored and created annual “Diversity Dialogues” during Unity Month Celebration with Provost Earl Lewis (2005-2006)
  • Co-sponsored of Transforming Community Project outreach events on Community Dialogues and archival research on history of race at Emory (2005-2006)
  • Collaborated with PCSW to form a new Work-Life Balance Task ForceConducted study on hiring, promotion, salary, job description/title, and attrition by race/ethnicity (2004)
  • Input in draft of new discriminatory harassment policy (2004)
  • Supported a student campus climate survey (2004)
  • Sponsored and gave input in creation of faculty/staff campus climate survey (2004)
  • Sponsored and created annual “Diversity Dialogues” as a part of Unity month celebration; Provost Earl Lewis, guest speaker (2004)
  • Co-sponsored National Coalition Building Institute Conflict Resolution (NCBI) training the trainer (2004)
  • Changed commission name from President’s Commission on the Status of Minorities (PCSM) to President’s Commission on Race and Ethnicity (PCORE) (2004)
  • Distributed $4500 in Professional Development Fund stipends to faculty and staff (2004)
  • Suggested to the President and Provost the need for a Vice-Provost of Diversity/Community (2003)
  • Drafted resolution regarding incident in Anthropology dept and EOP (2003)
  • Sponsored and planned a university-wide diversity symposium, “Diversity as Value Added”; Dr. Beverly Tatum, guest speaker (2003)
    Co-sponsored of "Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America" photo exhibit (2002)
  • Supported student participation in summer study abroad in Ghana (2002)
  • Conducted archival review and created report summarizing commission’s actions over the past 15 years (2002)
  • Fought for removal of confederate flag flying in front of fraternity home (2001)
  • Supported students participation in diversity symposium in Puerto Rico (2001)
  • Hosted and participated in a one-day symposium by The Association of American Colleges and Universities National Project: Why Can't We Talk About Race? (1998)
  • Sponsored a Video Conference titled, “Creative Ways of Finding & Keeping Faculty of Color.” (1995)
  • Submitted report to the Aetna Foundation on Emory’s Minority Student Retention Study (1994)
  • Sponsored and organized Fall Minority Reception (1980s-1994)
  • Conducted McClain Report (1989)
